Chromite ore

The only ore of chromium is the mineral chromite (chrome ore) . The two main products of chromite refining are ferrochromium and metallic chromium, for those products the ore smelter process differs considerably. For the production of ferrochromium the chromite ore is reduced with either aluminium or silicon in a aluminothermic reaction and for the production of pure chromium the iron has to be separated from the chromium in a two step roasting and leaching process.

Chromite Mining Methods

The chemical industry feeds dried, crushed, and ground chromite ore mixed with soda ash (a source of sodium carbonate) into a rotary kiln furnace. Chromium is usually found in rocks, animals, plants, soil, and in volcanic dust and gases. To chromium mining industry, the first step is crushing the chromium ore with chromium ore. Chromite deposits are mined by both underground and surface techniques. So the chromite needs to be moved to the hopper of the crushing machine.
